What Should You Expect When Getting a Procedure?

Many people don't know what to expect when obtaining laser hair removal services. Generally, prior to the session, ointment or topical anesthesia or numbing creams are applied to the area to beforehand, but most patients find that the procedure is relatively painless and forego this. Depending on the size of the area requiring laser hair removal, the procedure can take anywhere between ten minute to an hour or longer.

For the most part, most people are uneducated when it comes to the basic prep-work involved in the laser hair removal process. Usually before the session, a topical or ointment anesthesia (numbing creams) is applied to the area. However, most patients will forego this step, as the procedure is generally painless. The actual laser removal session shouldn’t last any longer than an hour, depending on the size of the affected area.

After the treatment, expect the treated area to be swollen or red. Some people even experience burning or mild scarring. Fortunately, there are many over-the-counter creams that are available to alleviate any discomfort the patient is feeling. The patient should be able to continue and normal daily activities, however sun exposure should be avoided for the first 24 hours or so.

Despite the few and sometimes unpleasant side effects, laser hair removal is generally safe and pain free. Most negative side-effects are only temporary and should go away within a short time period. As with any surgical procedure though, one should weight the pro’s and con’s before deciding if laser hair removal is right for them.
