What Are The Different Types of Laser Hair Removal Machines?

There are many types of laser hair removal equipment today that professionals regard as practical and useable to the general public. However, knowing about the different types of laser hair removal machines will better equip you to make a decision on which type of treatment you decide on.

As always, one should seek professional consultation as to what type of laser hair removal machines are available and what would best fit your needs.

Here is a compiled list of the different types of laser hair removal equipment you may find in a local clinic. This page is updated constantly as new laser hair removal machines are developed, so check back often.

Pulsed Light (IPL) or Ultimate Light

This type of laser hair removal machine gives 515 nm to 1200 nm delivering the widest range of light which include red, green, yellow and even infrared light. The quality of the light delivered can vary significantly from very short (1millisecond) to very long (1200 milliseconds) total durations and from 1 to 4  pulses or segments of light.

The ability of each laser hair removal machine varies but in most cases the EpiLight is the most advanced for hair removal.  You may have also heard of the PhotoDerm.  This is the original machine developed for successfully treating facial blood vessels, facial Rosacea, leg veins, and other blood vessels.  So it has many other  significant uses.

Diode Laser

Another great type of laser hair removal machine is the Diode Laser.  Most experts agree that this is the next most useful hair removal light source that works  extremely well.

This type of hair removal machine delivers a longer wavelength.  This longer wavelength enables the light to penetrate deeper and is theoretically safer than shorter wavelength lasers because it can better avoid the melanin pigment in the skin's epidermis layer. The Diode laser's longer wavelength of light thereby penetrates into
the hair follicle without causing as much epidermal injury as some other sources.

Nd: Yag Laser

This type of laser hair removal equipment has raised some controversy.  Although it is capable of treating all skin colors it is not an effective long-term hair remover. In fact the hair may completely re-grow within 6 months.  There have also been patients who have reported that this system is very painful.

Ruby Laser

This laser hair removal machine frequently produces side effects such as pigmentary changes which include lightening or darkening of the skin. The experts generally do not recommend using this type of laser hair removal machine for treating unwanted hair in any skin type other than very white  skin.

Alexandrite Laser

The last laser hair removal machine is very similar to the Ruby Laser in that is often produces side effects. Most would agree that it is outdated, and one should seek out other types of laser hair removal machines if availabe.
